Historic Tulip Collection
Polly Nicholson holds the National Collection of Historic Tulips, comprising around 50 cultivars dating back to the 16th century. Although we grow every kind of tulip at Bayntun Flowers, including many of the smaller, perennial species, it is historic tulips that really make the pulse quicken. The National Collection comprises a small but growing number of the most rarefied historics—English Florists’ tulips—as well as the cultivars known as Dutch Breeder, Broken and Dutch Florists’ tulips.
a single perfect tulip
With feathered and flamed colouration already bred into them, Bayntun’s selection of Rembrandt tulips, dating back to 1780, have limited availability as cut flowers. All in all, with our many quantities of cultivars from all 15 tulip groups, we consider ourselves to be tulip specialists.
